Keith Underwood has encompassed storm water management practices with his own home by planting a green roof. A green roof is simply a garden full of vegetation atop a building. Green roofs provide a multitude of benefits that include green space, building insulation (which could ultimately lower heating and cooling costs), prolonged roof life and, most importantly,a reduction in roof storm water runoff. Traditionally, green roofs include plants that are drought tolerable and can grow in 4-6 inches of soil. Underwood, however, practices an original design incorporating his passion for wetlands and bogs by planting a variety of pitcher plants.
