Homeport Farms Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance (Annapolis, MD)
The project site is located in the community of Homeport Farms in Edgewater, Anne Arundel County, Maryland and was completed in 2005.
This project was constructed as part of the Homeport Farms development. It discharges into the Wilelinor Stream and Wetland Restoration project. A conventional storm drain system had been permitted for this site. Underwood & Associates approached the developer and regulatory officials requesting replacement of pipes and rip-rap swales with a Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance (RSC) system. Underwood & Associates designed and constructed this system. These systems capture surface water and convert it to groundwater which is released into the receiving waters as a springhead seep.
The project resulted in the restoration of 300 linear feet of deeply incised stream channel which included reestablishment of a stable stream profile and plan form, creation of capacity to safely convey peak discharges, raised groundwater elevations in turn restoring springhead seeps which in turn enhance water quality, terrestrial and aquatic habitat and ecological function.
