Bio Habitats Collaboration Project
Using fluvial geomorphologic principles in conjunction with soil bioengineering, this design project, completed in 2013, developed and designed a stream restoration plan for Rupperts Tributary, a Coastal Plain stream located in Anne Arundel County, MD. Some specific works tasks include the hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, channel geometry, cost benefit analysis, preparation of design and construction drawings, complete specifications, geometric layout, quantities sheet, and engineers’ cost estimate.
Restoration objectives included the use of soil bioengineering approaches that work in conjunction with the fluvial geomorphologic characteristics of the stream. The final design for this project demonstrates the latest principles in regenerative stream conveyance, including access to an active floodplain, pools and riffle habitat, curvilinear pattern, point bars, root wad placements, and native riparian vegetation.
